Aaron Donato

Aaron Donato is a 19-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department. Elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Police Officers Association (SPOA) in 2001, Aaron served twelve years, eight of which were on full time release, where he worked tirelessly to advocate for the advancement of the membership. Prior to working for the Mastagni Law Firm, Aaron has served as SPOA’s lead negotiator for contract enforcement and enhancement.

Aaron has served eight years as an executive board member on the Coalition of Organized Labor, a Sacramento labor organization. He is the founder and past president of the SPOA Memorial Scholarship Fund, a Sacramento non-profit dedicated to supporting community youth, promoting higher education, and remembering Sacramento's fallen police officers.

At the Sacramento Police Department, Aaron was the department’s POST sexual harassment and customer service instructor. He is an experienced union leader with extensive experience in labor negotiations, contract enforcement, grievance procedures, and internal affairs investigations. He also understands the unique difficulties associated with running a blended unit and is knowledgeable in both the Meyers-Milias Brown Act (MMBA) and the Peace Officers Bill of Rights Act (POBRA).

Aaron has numerous certificates for the completion of coursework from the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), Labor Relations Information System (LRIS), California Public Employer Labor Relations Academy (CALPELRA), The Labor Arbitration Institute, and the Harvard Law School Labor and Worklife Program.
