Daniel L. Koontz
Dan Koontz is a retired Police Officer with 17 years of experience. Dan started his law enforcement career working for the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department. Dan later lateraled to the Elk Grove Police Department. The Elk Grove Police Department was a new Police Department and Dan was amongst the first to be sworn in to the department. Dan knew the importance of providing employees with the benefits and protections an Association provides so he began the Elk Grove Police Officer’s Association.
Dan served as the President of the Elk Grove POA for five years and was on the board for seven years. During his time on the board Dan had the opportunity to be involved with creating the association bylaws, reviewing and giving feedback on Lexipol policies, and shaping the vision of a new Police Department.
Dan was on the negotiation team for the first two MOU’s the Association bargained. Dan and his team worked tirelessly to ensure the members received the best possible MOU even though they were bargaining during a recession.
Dan was also one of the creators of the Elk Grove End of Watch Fund. The End of Watch Fund has provided assistance to families of fallen officers and to employees of the Elk Grove Police Department. Dan has assisted in several fundraising event for the End of Watch Fund but his favorite will always be the Jeff Mitchell Wiffleball Tournament.
