John H. Bakhit is the Regional Managing Southern California Associate in our firm’s Labor Department. He received his Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College, where he graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Bakhit has devoted his legal career to labor and employment law, where he handles complex claims arising out of the Public Safety Officers' Procedural Bill of Rights, the Firefighters’ Procedural Bill of Rights, the California Labor Code, the Myers-Milias-Brown Act, complex contract negotiations with City, County, and State agencies, and other statutes protecting the rights of employees.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. Bakhit served as an Oakland Police Officer working in Patrol and the Crime Prevention Unit, where he regularly wrote and served search warrants, worked undercover, and testified as an expert witness in court. During law school, Mr. Bakhit was awarded the Law Faculty Scholarship and the Certificate for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. He also completed an internship with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, where he was assigned to the Gang Unit.

As a practicing attorney, Mr. Bakhit has represented hundreds of public safety members in administrative cases, critical incidents, and criminal cases. He has also negotiated complex employment contracts. In addition to representing our clients, John often gives lectures and provides training on the Public Safety Officers’ Procedural Bill of Rights, Firefighters’ Procedural Bill of Rights, disciplinary investigations, critical incident investigations, labor relations issues, unfair labor practices, and other employment related issues. Mr. Bakhit is admitted to practice in all state courts in California, as well as the Central and Southern Districts of the U.S. District Court, California.
