* Update: On July 8, 2009, the California Supreme Court denied review of S.B. 440 after the First District Court of Appeal declared the statute unconstitutional. The Appellate Court’s decision is now final. Law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout California no longer have the right under the California Code of Civil Procedure to proceed to interest arbitration once impasse is declared in contract negotiations.
